Pitchers Duel in Monmouth

With the roughest part of the schedule up ahead, the Cubs would travel to Monmouth to Face one of the toughest team in the league in the NJ Bulldogs. The Cubs would start the game with half of the speedsters missing from the lineup as they would not show up on such an important match. Also their star infielder Nick Stahlman would also be late to the game to start off and it looked like it was going to be a bad day for the Cubs. The Bulldogs being the home team would jump on Cubs starting pitcher Edgar Campusano early on. They would score a run making it 1-0 and it would stay like that for the next 6 innings. The Bulldogs pitcher Matt Thornon would keep the Cubs bats at bay all day but in the top of the 6th innings the Cubs would strike. With Nick Stahlman at 3rd base after a lead off walk and a few past balls, with 1 out, Joyler Baguet would drive in a run with a loop single over the 3rd baseman to tie the game 1-1. Than in the top of the 7th it was Nick Stahlman who would come through again as he would drive in Keith Lourfing to grab the lead for good 2-1. Nick made up for being late and boy did he come through when needed, that was a huge hit there kid. Edgar Campusano did the rest. Edgar would go all 7 innings allowing only 2 hits and 1 run with 5 Ks. It was his best outing by far as he kept the walks down and for the first time this season he did not hit a batter. (hahaha). Overall it was a great duel as both pitchers pitched what I considered it to be one of the best games of the season by far.

Game 2

With Ken Harry on the mound for the 2nd straight week, the Bulldogs would go to work again. Once again they would take the 1-0 lead in the first inning. Ken had to adjust a little as he was struggling a bit in that first inning but after adjusting he was lights out. In the bottom of the 3rd, with 2 on base, Joyler Baguet would drop a bunt down that led to 2 runs as the Bulldogs would throw it away. A batter later Moises Diaz would bring in Joyler Baguet to make the score 3-1. The very next inning The Cubs would score 3 more runs to make it 6-1. Ken Harry would end his day with 5 innings of work, 3 hits, 1k and 1 earned run. Next up Kenneth Miller Lopez would come in to close the game. The Bulldogs would score a run on the 6th but Kenneth would finish out the game for the win and the sweep of the Bulldogs. Ken Harry would earn his first win as a Cub and is looking great as the number 2 pitcher behind Edgar. They will be a great 1-2 punch if they continue this pace.  These were must win games for the Cubs as they have a rough schedule to deal with in this second half of the season. Now is a race and everyone should be in mid season form. These 2 games are more than just wins, it gave us an idea on how far this team has come this season, and it gave us an idea of how we measure against a quality team like the Bulldogs. They are a tough team to beat and I am sure these two teams will make deep runs in the playoffs.
