Behind dominate pitching Reds able to split

Andrew Lewnes turned out his first complete game of the season to lead the Reds. Mike Francis and Tony Perez each drove in a run. Ken Harry delievered his own complete game but the Twins were downed 2-1.

Behind some timely hitting and their starting pitcher, the Reds were able to salvage a split with a 2-1 victory over the Twins.

The Twins struck first with a Bryan Konoski RBI single in the second to score Cody Silverman, who got into scoring position by walking and stealing second base. But Lewnes -- 7IP / 1 ER / 5 H / 8K -- went the last five innings without giving up another run.

The momentum change came in the top of the fifth when the Twins were able to load up the bases with no outs and the top of their line-up coming up. However, Lewnes was able to induce two ground outs with a strike out mixed in between to get out of the inning unscathed. The Reds offense responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning which proved enough for Lewnes as he worked the sixth and seventh relatively easy to capture his first win on the season.

How the runs scored:

Twins second: Silverman walked. Silverman stole second base. Bostory, grounded out, shortstop Hernandez to first baseman Taggart. Konoski singled to center, Silverman scored. Micallef struck out. Nevarez struck out.

Reds 0, Twins 1.

Reds fifth: Carlisi popped up to first base. Shain singled to left. Stoop walked, Shain to second. Francis singled to left, Shain scored, stoop to second. Hernandez struck out. Perez doubled to right, Stoop scored, Francis to third. Grishman grounded out, shortstop to first baseman.

2 runs, 3 hits, 0 errors, 2 left on.

Reds 2, Twins 1.
