NJABL JOINS CHS SEASON CELEBRATION

June 11, 2015- On a night where the Columbia Cougars baseball team was celebrating it's school record breaking season, the New Jersey Amateur Baseball League made the evening a little more special for one player on the Cougars club.

In memory of Harold "Chip" Mazzolla, the NJABL unveiled a new high school scholarship award last night that will benefit a senior varsity player each year.

The Cougars were 23-4 this year, winning the SEC Liberty Division Championship. The team set school records in wins (23) and fewest losses (4) in a season. Eric Lax, the NJABL Scholarship recipient, set records for most hits in a season (51), most RBI (41) and highest batting average in a season (.586). He has signed a letter of intent to play at the University of Tampa on a full athletic scholarship.

"It's an honor to come back to Columbia this evening, and help my father continue to give back to this program. For the years he dedicated to helping the Columbia baseball club, being able to do this with the support of the players in the league means the world to me. This is an opportunity that I cannot put into words. To those who decided to be part of this, I am incredible thankful," noted league co-commissioner Michael Mazzolla.
