Charity Softball Event a Huge Success!

NJABL Raises over $15,000 for Charity

On Saturday May 30th, the New Jersey Amateur Baseball League welcomed the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team for a pair of charity softball games to benefit the WWAST and Operation Shoebox NJ. The event grew as the weeks got closer and the overall impact of the event has been incredible.

Domingo Ayala made an appearance, competing in the Home Run Derby and as part of Game 2. Media coverage picked up with the Asbury Park Press featuring 2 front page articles about the event, USA Today featured it on the front of their Sports Section, the Star Ledger pitched in with 2 articles of their own, and nj.com had 4 articles about the event. Fios 1 even came to cover the story as well.

The day started with a packing event for Operation Shoebox NJ. While the initial goal was to reach 300 care packages, the volunteers and participation helped to reach 615 packages for the day! Operation Shoebox Founder Rod Hirsch noted, "It was one of the most inspiring and special events I have ever taken part of."

The day carried that feeling for those involved and those who attended. More than 20 players from the New Jersey Amateur Baseball League participated, with local wounded warrior Tony Torres, South Jersey right leg amputee Axel Alicea and 4 Bound Brook firefighters to battle WWAST on the field. In the end, it went down as a split with WWAST taking Game 1 10-6, and NJABL winning Game 2 11-9.

The event brought forward many sponsors as well, with a special thanks to Princeton PT Group, Victus Sports, SportDecals, Joe Trivia, DropShippingVeterans.com, Chimney Rock Inn, South Side Grille, Mama Rosinas, Alliance Commercial Door, Zoned Sports Academy, Mickeys Trucking, International Longshoremen's Association, the band Live, UFD, Think Loud, Eye Black, amongst others.

The event has not finalized the tally, but looks as if we exceeded $15,000 on the event.
