Sietsma gem and Chicos bats power team to Premiere Finals

Pompton rolls to Premiere Finals

Grofsick delivers single in the 6th

Wrapping up a weekend of quarterfinal and semi final playoff games, the Pompton Chicos hosted the USA Black Sox in the North Premiere Finals battle at Overpeck County Park in Ridgefield Park. The Chicos came out swinging early, jumping quickly to a 5-0 lead on the Black Sox behind another strong performance from starter Brian Sietsma. In the 8th inning, the Black Sox looked to spoil the game for the Chicos ace, drawing a walk with 1 out to load the bases. An infield error with two outs would help plate 2 Sox runners, bringing the game to 5-2 before a strikeout ended the inning. In the top of the ninth, 2 quick hits and Mgr Joey Oliva passed the baton to Matt Goitz to close it out. A strikeout then a walk, and the Chicos were faced in another bases loaded jam. Goitz was able to pitch out of it with a strikeout and grounder to 1st to end the game, and bring the North Premiere Championship Trophy to Pompton.

They now await the winner of the South Premiere, which has the Somerville Giants hosting the winner of the NJ Indians v Tigers/Braves game on Saturday.
