South River, NJ – The Somerset Clippers surprised all of the baseball experts, upsetting the South River Sharks on Saturday 13-6 behind Jared Fowler’s 5 hit 6 RBI performance and complete game win on the hill. Fowler threw all nine innings and allowing eight hits, giving up three earned runs and while striking out eleven sharks.

The Clippers got on the board early in the top of the first, with two quick runs, highlighted by Rob Roman’s RBI single. In the 3rd, the Clippers scored three more, again highlighted by a 2 run single by Roman. With the Clippers up 5-0, it looked like they were going to breeze through this one.

However, the Sharks struck back with 4 in the bottom of the 3rd, cutting the lead to 5-4. The Clippers answered quickly in the 4th inning, led by an RBI double by Freddie Castro and a monster 2-run home run by Fowler. Mike Casiano singled home the final run of the 5 run inning.

The Clippers exploded with 15 hits. In addition to Fowler’s 5 hit game, Roman, Casiano, Castro and Mike McCrea all had two hits for the Clippers. Jose Pinto scored 3 runs and Roman had 3 RBI.

The win sets up a matchup on Sunday with the Central Jersey Cardinals, which will be a battle. The winner will advance to the next round, needing one more win to advance to the championship.
