CLIPPERS WITH LATE RALLY IN GAME 2 JUST FALL SHORT OF SWEEP

On April 28, the Clippers squared off against the Union County Beavers in a double header looking to improve to .500. In Game 1, the Clippers, behind a Zack Markle complete game 3 hitter and Dave Cascone's 3 run 2B, defeated the Beavers 5-1. The Clippers scored 4 runs in the 2nd inning, which was all they would need. After singles by George Tomasello and Pete Polizzano, Mike McCrea drove in the first run of the game with an RBI single. After another single by Gabe Vasquez, Cascone stepped to the plate and lined a 2B into the right field corner, driving home 3 runs to give the Clippers a 4-0 lead. That would be all Markle would need, who pitched a gem for the complete game win.

In Game 2, Jared Fowler took the mound to try to lead the Clippers to a sweep. Fowler, coming off a gem of his own last week, was not as sharp. He would only last 1 2/3 innings and left the game early with shoulder soreness. He is listed day-to-day. With the Clippers down 12-4 after 4 innings, things looked dim, however, the Clippers mounted a comeback, behind the relief pitching of Mike Casciano and Jose Pinto, they started to cut into the lead, scoring 3 runs in the 5th, behind RBI's by Pinto and Fowler and 3 runs in the 6th, highlighted by a big two out RBI single by Anthony Arroyo, which made the score 12-10. Unfortunatly, the comeback was too little too late and the Beavers tacked on one more unearned run securing the victory 13-10. The Clippers are now 2-4 going into Mother's Day weekend and look to once again attempt to get to .500 on 5/19 when they face the Dunellen Pirates at Billian Field in a double header with the first game starting at 2:00PM.

Game Notes:

- Rob Roman had two hits and an RBI in Game 2 and played steller defense at SS. He made two plays that would be Top 10 on any highlight reel.

- Pete Pollizano had 3 hits in the doubleheader, while Jose Pinto, George Tomasello, Gabe Vasquez and Rob Roman all had 2 hits on the day.

- Zack Markle had a triple in Game 1, the first triple of the year for the Clippers

- SS Ruben Mercado left Game 1 with an apparent leg injury, after stealing second base. He is listed day-to-day

- Jose Pinto threw out a runner at 3B to end Game 1, just behind the lone run scoring for the Beavers. In addition, Pinto made his triumphant return to the mound after a two year absence and threw two innings of one hit ball, giving up one unearned run.
