Clippers Recap - April 21

CLIPPERS WIN THEIR FIRST GAME IN A THRILLER

On April 21, the Clippers traveled to South River to face the Sharks in a double header. In Game 1, the Clippers sent George Tomasello to the mound in search of their first win of the season. Before Tomasello even stepped on the mound, the Clippers scored 5 runs, lead by RBI singles by Pete Trentacosta, Rob Roman and George Tomaselllo and bases loaded walks by Mike Casiano and Ruben Mercado. Unfortunatly for the Clippers, the Sharks battled back and tied the game after 3 innings. In the bottom of the 4th, Mike McCrea broke the tie with an RBI single and Pat Darrah has an RBI ground out to give the Clippers a 7-5 lead. The Clippers lead 7-6 when Tomasello handed the ball over to McCrea to try to close out the game. The Sharks scored two runs and went on to win the game 8-7.

In Game 2, Jared Fowler took the mound to try to earn a split. This time the Sharks jumped out to an early lead leading 5-1 going into the bottom of the 3rd. The Clippers faught back with a bases loaded RBI walk by Pat Darrah and an RBI ground out by George Tomasello to cut the lead to 5-3. In the borrom of the 4th, the Clippers loaded the bases with singles by Rob Roman and Gabe Vasquez and a HBP by Mike McCrea. With two outs, Mike Casiano hit a grad slam HR giving the Clippers a 7-5 lead, which they took all the way to the top of the 7th. With two outs and two on, the Clippers were one strike away from their first win when the Sharks scored two unearned runs off of Jared Fowler to tie the game 7-7 and force extra innings. In the bottom of the 8th, Jared Fowler ended the game with a dramatic solo walk off HR to win it for the Clippers. In addition to pitching a complete game, the HR was Jared's 2nd of the game. The Clippers are now 1-2 and look to reach .500 on 4/28 when they travel to Middletown to face the Shore Shockers.
